Sergio Gor Meets US MedTech Firms, Pushes Greater Access To India’s Healthcare Market

US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor has called for deeper economic engagement between India and the United States, highlighting greater market access, investment and manufacturing cooperation as key areas for strengthening bilateral commercial ties. Gor said discussions with leading US MedTech companies had focused on identifying opportunities to expand their presence in India.
He added that increased access to the Indian market and higher US exports could contribute to stronger commercial relations while also broadening cooperation in healthcare and medical technology.
“Productive discussion with leading US MedTech companies on unlocking greater opportunities in India. Expanding market access and increasing US exports will strengthen our commercial ties and deepen US-India cooperation in health and medical technology,” Gor said.
The ambassador’s comments come as both countries continue efforts to deepen economic engagement and encourage businesses from either side to expand their operations across borders.
Previously, on Wednesday, Gor described India-US relations as being at a “historic high-point”, while underlining the need to develop a trade relationship that benefits businesses in both countries. He said the two sides are working towards building a trade partnership that is “fair, reciprocal and mutually beneficial”.
As part of that approach, Gor encouraged Indian businesses to explore opportunities in the US, particularly in manufacturing, research and development and distribution. At the same time, he stressed the importance of ensuring that American suppliers receive fair access to the Indian market.
The call for reciprocal access reflects the broader push to increase two-way investment and trade while creating more opportunities for companies operating in strategic sectors.
US MedTech Firms Look To Expand India Opportunities

Healthcare and medical technology featured prominently in Gor’s recent engagement with American companies.
He said discussions with leading US MedTech firms centred on “unlocking greater opportunities in India”. Expanding access for these companies could support higher US exports while strengthening cooperation between the two countries in health and medical technology.
For US healthcare and technology companies, India represents a major market with opportunities spanning medical devices, technology, manufacturing and related services. Greater commercial access could potentially encourage more companies to explore local partnerships and investments.
Gor also stressed the importance of strengthening investment flows in both directions rather than viewing the relationship simply through the lens of exports and imports.
