SBI Plans To Hire 1,500 Probationary Officers This Year

The State Bank of India (SBI) plans to recruit 1,500 probationary officers (POs) this year to support its business growth with the recruitment process to complete by December.
Of these vacancies, 1,446 are regular vacancies and 54 are backlog vacancies, and the applicants must be graduates in any discipline and should be at least 21 years of age as of April 1, 2026, as reported by PTI.
The dates for online application and fee payment will be June 18 to July 8, 2026, preliminary exam call letters will be shared by 2nd/3rd week of July 2026.
The Phase I Preliminary Examination will be held in August 2026 with results to be declared in August/September 2026.
This will be followed by main examination in September 2026 and psychometric test, group exercise and interview in October/November 2026.
Candidates can expect the final result in November/December 2026.
According to bank’s annual report, overall, SBI hired 4,640 officers, 19,340 associates and 1,653 contractual staff during 2025-26. SBI has recruited 67 sportspersons during the last financial year to promote Indian sports and build a team of disciplined, high-performing individuals.
SBI has consistently maintained an annual attrition rate of below 1 per cent, with attrition standing at about 0.97 per cent in 2025-26, among the lowest in the industry.
Women account for 28.54 per cent of SBI’s domestic workforce, with 24 per cent representation at managerial levels and 8.55 per cent in senior leadership positions, the report said.
SBI also hires professionals through lateral recruitment from diverse backgrounds, including IT professionals and domain experts, and these specialists are appointed as Specialist Officers across key functions such as data centres, information technology, risk management, legal, treasury, compliance and data analytics, depending on the evolving and multidisciplinary nature of banking.
