NSE Hasn’t Sought SEBI Nod To Trade On Its Own Platform: CEO Ashishkumar Chauhan

National Stock Exchange (NSE) managing director and CEO Ashishkumar Chauhan on Friday said the IPO-bound stock exchange hasn’t applied to SEBI for permission to trade on its own platform.
“NSE is India’s largest exchange and by many counts, it’s one of the largest in the world. The purpose of NSE was also to channel savings into capital. It’s a testament that NSE has fulfilled the mandate its founders started with,” Chauhan said at a press conference in Mumbai.
“We are among the largest vertically integrated exchanges in the sense that we own our technology. Some exchanges focus in commodities or equites. We are across asset classes, commodities, currencies, electricity, even charity,” added Chauhan.
“Broadly, NSE has created standards for continual availability. We have a response time of 500-800 nanoseconds. Many organisations can’t measure that, let alone offer services,” Chauhan further said.
The exchange has set the price band at Rs 1,700-1,785 per share, and the minimum amount of investment required by a retail investor would be Rs 14,280, based on the upper price band.
According to the red herring prospectus (RHP), the three-day bidding for the IPO will open on September 17 (Thursday) and conclude on September 21. Bidding for anchor investors will take place on September 16.
State Bank of India (SBI) has reduced its proposed OFS to around 1.60 crore shares from 2.47 crore shares, while MS Strategic (Mauritius) Ltd has cut its offer to 1.1 crore shares from 1.6 crore shares. State Bank of India is among the largest shareholders participating in the OFS.
According to NSE’s earnings presentation, NSE reported a profit of Rs 10,300 crore in the fiscal year ending March 2026, down 15% from a year earlier. The exchange’s revenue more than doubled from April 2019 to April 2026 to about Rs 18,700 crore, as options trading exploded in India.
