The Republic Day sale in 2026 saw online orders surge by 34 per cent in comparison to the same period last year, according to the data from GoKwik.
This surge highlights the strong demand in the e-commerce market, reflecting a shift in shopping habits with consumers engaging more in online sales events.
Online order volumes during the Republic Day sale grew 34 per cent year-on-year (YoY), showing an increased customer participation beyond the usual festive shopping seasons.
With the overall order volumes growing, the beauty and personal care category saw the steepest increase and emerged as the fastest-growing segment. The order volumes increased by 75 per cent YoY. This increase was driven by high demands of skincare and haircare products.
While fashion continued to contribute significantly to the order volume, electronics saw a decline of 24 per cent YoY during the sale period. In addition, direct‑to‑consumer (D2C) brands across categories — including jewellery, apparel, and footwear — continued to build momentum during the Republic Day sales, supported by quick commerce participation and promotional activity.
Other reports on the Republic Day retail environment show that overall sales growth across groceries, consumer electronics, and apparel reached their fastest pace in five years, helped by factors like recent GST cuts and early wedding season shopping.

This Republic Day sale made history in terms of the payment mode. For the first time during the Republic sale, online payments accounted for more than half of the total orders, overtaking Cash on Delivery (COD), which reflects the maturing digital shopping behaviour among customers.
The highest number of orders was placed early in the morning, before 10 AM, replacing the traditional late-night peak seen in earlier sales periods.
Republic Day-themed merchandise saw a strong uptake, especially in Tier 2 and Tier 3 towns like Assam, West Bengal, and Odisha. This uptake highlighted the deep market penetration beyond metros.
