Raymond Chairman Gautam Singhania Injured in Maldives Boat Accident

Raymond Group Chairman and Managing Director Gautam Hari Singhania was injured and two Indian nationals are missing after a speedboat capsized near Felidhoo island in the Maldives, according to local media reports. The accident took place early Friday morning near Vaavu atoll. There were seven people on board, including two women – a British national and a Russian national – and five Indian men, reports said.
Police said five people fell into the sea when the vessel overturned, including the Russian woman and four Indian men.
Singhania, 60, was among those rescued. He sustained minor injuries and was discharged after treatment, reports citing police said. “The two missing persons are Indian nationals,” police said, adding that search operations are underway.

The speedboat belonged to Singhania’s yacht, TT Ashena, and was a high-speed Cigarette racing vessel, according to reports.The Maldives National Defence Force’s Male Area Command Coast Guard is conducting search operations. The incident occurred about two nautical miles southwest of Keyodhoo.

Meanwhile, a source told Times Now, “It is tragic that two people died and one person’s arm was severed in a high-speed speedboat accident in the Maldives. The boat belonged to Singhania, Managing Director of the Raymond Group. He sustained minor injuries and was later discharged from a Mumbai hospital.”
“The incident took place around midnight after dinner. Gautam Singhania sustained minor injuries, including cuts on his eyebrow and bruises on his chin, with no rib damage. The group lost control of the high-speed boat, leading to the accident. Two Indian nationals died, while Manik Bhimsen Bhardwaj suffered severe injuries, including the loss of an arm. Rally driver Hari Singh was also among those affected. There was no immediate forensic examination, and the matter with local authorities continued till early morning,” the source added.
